How to Clean a Filter on an Oxygen Concentrator

Oxygen concentrators provide medical oxygen by taking in room air, separating the oxygen from nitrogen and other gases, and delivering a constant flow of oxygen to the patient through a nasal cannula or face mask. Oxygen concentrators come in many sizes and models and are generally reliable and require little maintenance. However, some maintenance is necessary for your oxygen concentrator to work properly and safely. Cleaning the intake filters regularly is especially important.

Steps to Clean your Filter

  1. Locate the filter housing on the oxygen concentrator. The filter housing is usually found on the side of the unit. Please note that some models have two filters, usually located on either side of the unit. If your concentrator has two filters, you need to clean both.
  2. Remove the filter from the oxygen concentrator and wash thoroughly in warm water with a mild detergent.
  3. Rinse the filter until the water runs clear.
  4. Pat dry with a clean cloth or paper towels.
  5. Replace the filter securely in the filter housing.
